Near to God
“No one can come to Me, unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught of God.' Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me.” – John 6:44-45

Drawing Near to God “Draw Near to God and He Will Draw Near to You...” - James 4:8 Lesson 3 Drawing Near by the Eternal Plan of God 1. For whom did God give up His Son? (John 3:16) 2. Does God invite all people to be saved through the gospel, showing partiality (favoritism) to none? (Acts 10:34-35) 3. Who does God want to be saved? (1 Timothy 2:3-4; 2 Peter 3:9) 4. Must we choose to come to Christ in order to be saved? (John 5:39-40; Mat. 11:28)
Drawing Near by Grace through Faith 5. Can a person be saved by the good works he does? (Eph 2:8-9; 2 Tim 1:9; Tit 3:4-7) 6. If we could earn our salvation by our good works, would salvation still be given by grace? (Romans 4:1-5) 7. What was credited to Abraham’s account that made him right with God? (v. 3) 8. What condition, according to John 3:16, must we meet to gain Eternal life?
Drawing Near by Faith That Works 9. Is faith in Jesus Christ a work? (John 6:28-29) 10. Is it an obedient faith to the gospel that leads to our freedom from sin? (Romans 6:17-18) 11. Is genuine faith demonstrated by works of obedience? (James 2:14-26; Gal. 5:6-7) 12. However, obedient faith is not the means of salvation (i.e., an agency, instrument, or method used to attain an end). What is the means? (Ephesians 1:7; cf. 1 John 1:7)
Fellowship with God is Made Possible by Obedient Faith to the Gospel! · How does a person become a Christian? Are there any conditions, in addition to faith, that a person must meet in order to become a Christian and receive salvation? 13. What did Jesus command His apostles to do in order to make disciples (Christians)? (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 24:46-47) 14. Is baptism into Christ only for those who first believe in Christ, repent of their sins, and confess their faith in Jesus? (e.g., Acts 2:36-38; 8:12-13, 35-39; See also Acts 10:34-48; 16:25-34; 18:8; 19:1-5; Acts 22:16 / Acts 9:1-9) 15. Is repentance (i.e., the turning away from sin to God – Acts 26:18) required for our salvation? (2 Corinthians 7:9-10; Luke 13:3, 5) 16. How important is the vocal confession of our faith in Christ as it pertains to our salvation? (Rom. 10:9-10; Mat. 10:32-33; e.g., Acts 8:37; 1 Tim. 6:12; John 12:42-43) 17. According to Jesus, belief plus baptism equals salvation (i.e. 1 + 1 = 2): Mark 16:16 “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”
18. What spiritual value does baptism have? (Acts 2:38; 22:16; cf. 1 Peter 3:21)
Baptism into Christ Draws us Near to the Lord! 19. When does a person “put on Christ”? (Gal. 3:27; cf. Rom. 6:3-4; Col. 2:12)
20. The church is the body of Christ (Eph. 1:22-23; Col. 1:18). Those who belong to His church are the saved, for their names are “written in heaven” (Heb. 12:23). When is a person added to the Lord’s church and therefore saved? (Acts 2:38, 41, 47; 1 Cor. 12:13)
21. Is there only one baptism that God will accept for our salvation today? (Eph. 4:4-6; e.g., Acts 19:1-5): Have I been baptized as a penitent believer with the “one baptism”? 22. Once a person is ready to be baptized into Christ, how soon should that person be baptized? (Acts 16:30-33)
